KARL BACKMAN

Karl Backman was born on Oct 27 1970 in Umea, Sweden. He got into punk rock when he was 9 and started his first punk band in 1982 when he was part of a group of squatters. He has played guitar in punk bands ever since and plays currently in The Vectors and AC4.

Backman was involved in the fanzine culture in the 80's and 90's and ran a punk rock club back in the early 90's until it was closed by the authorities. His work experiences always fitted this persona as Backman has worked as a gravedigger, in a crematorium, a slaughter house and betting shops.

Karl Backman started out drawing comics, designing posters and doing screen printed t-shirts in his early teens and has only been painting the last 6 or 7 years really when he went back to art school for a second time.

Apart from touring with AC4 Karl Backman will have his paintings and screen prints exhibited both in Europe and the USA during 2009.
